Rumors and few truths circulate around the isles about the Admiral of the Free Nation of Malnesia, Miriana of Meslani, who has risen to something of a mythical form since the legendary victory of her rebel fleet over the combined armades of the Imperial provinces of Dúl and Metir .

Once the son of the highly decorated admiral, Harwig von Masív, of the Dúl navy was an enemy of the revolutionary movement in present-day Malnesia. He received his first command and his father's ship at a young age after graduating from Officers School in Syrenia, the capital of Dúls. However, he quickly realized that he was on the wrong side of history and switched sides. Together with today's admiral, he fought in the civil war that made Malnesia possible.

Like many inhabitants of the islands, Sunja Whirlwind is not from Malnesia, for she is a child of a province of the Imperium of the Sixteen Blades. It is not known which of the many regions the experienced sailor came from, as she rarely talks about her past.

The first mate of the breakwaters, Dárick Kiesberg, had to learn from an early age that the world is not fair.
